Coronavirus COVID-19 Deep Clean Procedure

Based on current information about the virus, spreading from person-to-person happens most frequently among close contacts (within about 6 feet). This type of transmission occurs via respiratory droplets. Current evidence suggests that novel coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials.

Cleaning of visibly dirty surfaces followed by disinfection is a best practice measure for prevention of COVID-19 and other viral respiratory illnesses in community settings. This guidance provides recommendations on the cleaning and disinfection of rooms or areas of those with suspected or with confirmed COVID-19 have visited. It is aimed at limiting the survival of novel coronavirus in key environments.

These recommendations will be updated if and when additional information becomes available. These guidelines are focused on community, non-healthcare facilities (e.g., schools, institutions of higher education, offices, day-care centres, businesses, community centres) that do and do not house persons overnight.

We advise any of our service users to make us aware if they have any suspected/confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the facility as soon as possible. We would recommend you close off any areas used by the infected persons and we will advise to wait 24 hours before deep cleaning and disinfecting commences to minimise potential for exposure to respiratory droplets. All Cleaning Staff entering site will be provided with disposable PPE. This will include Aprons, gloves and masks. PPE will be worn at all times including disposing of rubbish. If any PPE is damaged during work all staff must wash, their hands as to the guidelines and then replace damaged PPE.

Once deep cleaning and disinfecting has ended, all PPE should be removed double bagged and locked up for 72 hours before disposing off with the normal rubbish. If this is not possible it will be collected by a specialist clinical waste company. All our cleaning staff will deep clean all infected areas and any high traffic area including reception areas, corridors, bathrooms and kitchen/ canteens.

These will include door handles/panels,handrails, light switches, telephones flush handles/ buttons, taps, telephones, keyboards, chairs, tables, hard floors and any other hard surfaces within the building the infected persons may have come in contact with. All hard surfaces areas will be cleaned down using detergent then disinfected
using disinfectant or chlorine these will meet the government guidelines.

We will be disinfecting all surfaces which are regularly touched. These will include:

  • All control panels
  • Door handles including handles to machines & push plates
  • Desk areas / telephones and PC's
  • Forklift trucks & pump trucks
  • Shutter door mechanisms
  • Handrails
  • Walls that are regularly touched
  • Wiping down/ disinfecting machinery
  • All tools will be disinfected
  • Light switches
  • floors within canteen areas
  • floor toilets/shower room and changing areas
  • All floors will be mopped with bleach/chlorine concentrate

All these surfaces will be cleaned with a chlorine concentrate and disinfectant that meets the government requirements. All cleaning equipment will be disposable or be able to disinfect like mop handles and fogging machine.

All other equipment including mopheads, clothes and paper roll will be disposed of to meet the guidelines. Any furnishings that cannot be wiped down and disinfected which include sofas, soft chairs, carpets etc will be disinfected by fogging machine this will spread a fog of disinfectant over the soft furnishings.

Only 1 room at a time will be cleaned and disinfected, and then it can be signed off closed and won't be able to re-enter until the 72 hours is up. This will prevent the area be re contaminated by anyone walking in and out during cleaning process.

Once all deep cleaning and disinfecting has been completed the site manager can sign the building off and hand back to the person responsible for the building. And then the appropriate action can be taken before anyone re-enters the building.

What is COVID-19 (Coronavirus)?

COVID-19, more commonly referred to as Coronavirus, is an infectious disease of which the main symptoms are fever, dry cough and tiredness. The majority of people who become infected experience slight respiratory illness and tend to recover without any special treatment. For people who are older or have underlying health conditions, Coronavirus can develop into a more serious illness.

The virus tends to spread through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when a person coughs or sneezes. There are currently no known treatments to COVID-19 and therefore the process of deep cleaning and regular washing of hands is important to reduce the infection rate.

Prevention

  • Washing of hands regularly using soap and water or an appropriate hand sanitiser.
  • Maintain 2 metres between you and others who do not live in the same household.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing. Try to use your flexed elbow.
  • If you have any symptoms or feel ill, remain cautious and stay at home.
  • Avoid activities that could potentially strain the lungs such as smoking.
  • Avoid any unnecessary travel where possible.
